Day 1: Fes – Ifrane – Azrou – Midelt – Ziz Valley – Erfoud – Merzouga Desert

Your journey begins with an 8:00 AM pickup from your hotel or riad in Fes. Travel south through the Middle Atlas Mountains, stopping in the alpine town of Ifrane, often called the “Switzerland of Morocco.”

Continue to the cedar forests of Azrou, where you can observe the famous Barbary macaques in their natural habitat. Afterward, enjoy lunch in Midelt before driving through the spectacular Ziz Valley, famous for its panoramic views of palm groves and dramatic landscapes.

Pass through Erfoud, renowned for its fossil workshops, before arriving at the magnificent Erg Chebbi dunes near Merzouga. Here, you’ll exchange your vehicle for camels and enjoy a memorable trek across the dunes as the sun sets over the Sahara.

Arrive at your traditional Berber desert camp, where you’ll enjoy dinner, local music around the campfire, and an overnight stay in a private tent.

Wake up early to witness one of the most beautiful sunrises over the Sahara Desert. After breakfast and a shower at your hotel, begin a fascinating excursion around the Merzouga region.

Visit nearby villages including Merzouga, Hassi Labied, and Khamlia, famous for its traditional Gnawa music. Meet local nomadic families and learn about their unique way of life while exploring the vast desert landscapes.
